Dear CSTers,
You already know I love dancing. I’m not a great dancer or anything, IT JUST FEELS GOOD. That’s enough for me! So, last November I was feeling not so great and suddenly it came to me like GD vision:
What if we had a book club, but it was a DANCE club?!
I thought about all the friends I have who love to shake it to great music. Then I thought about the fact that Jennifer Davis Flynn and I have been DJing parties as Rumblehoney DJ Services since before the pandemic, and I realized: it’ll be just like a book club, but it’s a dance club.
And we’ll call it Cunth Club… in homage to the old joke, “See you next Tuesday” (when you mean “C.U.N.T.”), in the most loving possible way. And our club meets once a month on Thursdays. Ergo, CUNTh CLUB!
So I wrote up a brief CUNTh CLUB MANIFESTO, and we started dancing. And we’re still going in 2025!
Cunth Club MANIFESTO
C U Next Thursday DANCE CLUB! One Thursday (early) evening per month
WHAT: Like a book club, but instead it’s a rotating dance party
WHERE: In members’ living rooms with the furniture pushed aside
WHO: Everyone is welcome
WHEN: Happy Hour (5:30-7:30pm) EARLY BEDTIME, BABES!
Cunth Club Mission Statement
The idea is to have a low-stress monthly dance party with friends who love music and dancing! The mission statement of Los Angeles’ wonderful Pony Sweat is a good guide for what we’re doing – except we’re not dancing for “exercise,” we’re just dancing! But Pony Sweat is awesome and you should check them out:
“Pony Sweat is a fiercely noncompetitive dance celebration from Los Angeles. It…feels like dancing in your bedroom to music from a favorite mixtape. Pony Sweat is a practice in anti-perfectionism and radical self-acceptance. Our goal is to cultivate freedom of movement and thought, to take care of ourselves and to take care of each other. Come as you are, all ways, always!”
Further Cunth Club Guidelines…
The Host should feel no pressure to clean, cook, or do anything except provide space and electricity for the dance floor and DJ
Music: Can either just use a playlist from Spotify, etc., on home music system or j have a friend DJ
Cunth Club Box: Each host receives the Cunth Club Box, filled with everything they need to host: a few disco lights and a disco ball and playlists
Do not clean your house before guests arrive — just push the furniture out of the way! That’s it.
BYOB
No cleanup. No homework. FEELS AMAZING
… and that’s it! It’s been a rough fall/winter for a lot of us, and CUNTh CLUB has been a real bright spot. So, if you need a little ass-shaking in your life, start your own CUNTh CLUB! Because information—and your booty—wants to be free.
A SPECIAL NOTE FOR OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY IN LOS ANGELES: We are sending love to you from Colorado … at our January Cunth Club we dedicated Chappell Roan’s iconic “Pink Pony Club” to the beautiful city of Los Angeles and all the wonderful people who live there.
To help victims of the Los Angeles fires, our Angeleno friends at The Mincing Mockingbird are not only donating a portion of their sales to help fire victims, but also recommend reaching out to these local organizations that work with disadvantaged communities in LA: Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund.
